2nd Largest NaRRa Development Jamaica

Hi guys, welcome back to the channel. Today we're going to talk about the construction of the new Parliament building and government campus by National Heroes Circle. Now, this is a project that's very important to Jamaica. But, it has been moving extremely slow.

So, the government has made this project one of three major projects to be undertaken by the new NARO department. Now, this NARO department is an attempt by the government to speed up the process of approving and building government infrastructure in Jamaica. It's very new. And the three projects that they are have been given priority to do is one, the new Parliament building and government campus at National Heroes Circle.

Two, the building of the Vernam Field Aerodrome out in Clarendon, or the Vernam Field Airport. And three, the construction of the new KPH hospital in downtown Kingston. Now, these are three projects that have been in the works for years, but it just have not started. In terms of some of the projects, funding is not a problem.

The Ministry of Health gets billions of dollars to build hospitals. The Cornwall Regional Hospital originally was 5 billion to build, and I think it's up to like 28 billion now. And everything they've ever asked for, they've gotten. They're building up a UE, and they're going to do a new hospital for KPH.

But, we'll talk about that in another video. Today we're going to talk about the Parliament building. Now, the currently the Jamaican government meets at Gordon House on Duke Street, but it's a very old building and parking is an issue and the location generally the parliament basically has outgrown that location. So, they want to build a billion-dollar facility, new parliament building by National Heroes Park.

And in addition to that, they're going to be building a lot of government offices and ministries on that property as well. Basically, they're going to be building an urban center with one of the buildings being uh new parliament building. And it's be it's a very nice building that they have um agreed to build. The The designs are there, but we can't show you on the channel because of copyright issues.

But, very nice facilities, very nice buildings to be built. So, we are going to give you an update on how NARA is actually going to get this project done. Now, NARA is actually going to oversee the entire project from Well, it's designed already, for but to construct it and get it going, NARA is now in charge. Jamaica is entering a new phase of national development marked by ambitious plans to modernize infrastructure, improve governance, and accelerate economic growth.

Two key elements of this transformation are the establishment of the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority, NARA, and the construction of the Houses of Parliament. Together, these initiatives reflect a strategic effort by the government to build a more efficient, resilient, and forward-looking nation. The National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority is designed to address one of Jamaica's long-standing challenges, the slow pace of project implementation. For many years, major infrastructure and development projects have faced delays due to bureaucracy, fragmented oversight, and limited coordination among government agencies.

NARA aims to solve this problem by acting as a central body responsible for planning, coordinating, and fast-tracking national projects. By bringing multiple functions under one authority, it reduces duplication and ensures that critical developments are completed in a timely manner. A key feature of NARA is its dual role in managing both public and private sector projects. On the public side, it will oversee the construction of essential infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, schools, and government facilities.

On the private side, it works alongside of FAST, or Facilitated Acceleration of Strategic of Strategic Transformation, program to streamline approvals and attract invest- and attract investment. One of the most significant projects expected to benefit from this new system is the construction of the Houses of Parliament. The current Parliament building, Gordon House, has served the country for decades, but is now outdated and limited in its capacity. The new Parliament complex, to be built at National Heroes Park, represents a a bold step toward modern governance.

It will provide state-of-the-art facilities for legislators, improve security, and a more accessible environment for the public. Beyond the building itself, the project includes a broader redevelopment of National Heroes Park into a modern civic space. Plans feature green areas, walking trails, and upgraded public amenities, transforming the location into a hub for both governance and community engagement. This reflects a vision of development that goes beyond functionality, aiming to enhance the quality of life for citizens while preserving national heritage.

Now, that is very important because so many times the government comes out with a timeline that is so unrealistic.

Yet, they put out those timelines. So, it's very good that NRA is taking over these projects. An example is the Southern Coastal Highway. So many times you heard that that road was going to be completed by X date.

And when you drive on the road, you realize there is no way they would be finished by X date. But they still put out X date. So, we're looking forward to NARA starting these three mega projects, and we'll keep you guys updated. All right, guys.
